Pi Day Hacks from Chef Cat De Orio

Tuesday, March 14 (3.14.17) is Pi Day and to celebrate, expert pie-maker Marie Callender’s partnered with chef and lifestyle expert Cat De Orio on some fun Pi Day ideas!

Pi is an infinite number. What else is infinite? Our love of all things PIE! The good news is, while Pi may be complicated, there’s nothing easier than PIE. What better way to celebrate the ultimate math nerd and pie-lovers’ holiday than with pie hacks from Chef Cat that make you look like a wiz in the kitchen. 

Easy-as-(Pumpkin)-Pie Brûlée

To create this effect, simply sprinkle an even layer of granulated sugar with a hint of cinnamon over the top of the flaky, made-from-scratch pastry crust of a Marie Callender’s Pumpkin pie. Use the flame from a kitchen torch to heat the sugar until it melts and forms a deep, golden brown crust. Serve immediately to ensure that satisfying crackle when you dig in. Customize by swapping out Pumpkin Pie for another Marie Callender’s pie of your choice.

Next-Day Parfait

Transform leftover pies into pie parfaits using the last little bit of your favorite Marie Callender’s pie. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.14.

1. Combine toasted coconut, crumbled vanilla wafers and toasted, chopped macadamia nuts.

2. Sauté sliced bananas with butter, sugar, cinnamon and a splash of dark rum.

In a stemless wine glass, in between a top and bottom layer of the nut mixture, layer a scoop of Marie Callender’s Banana Cream pie filling (or a cream pie of your choice) followed by a layer of caramelized bananas. Bonus: Top it all off with a whoosh of Reddi-wip, toasted coconut and chopped macadamia nuts.
